About Amorcia
A pan-African crowdfunding and innovation-support platform, bilingual English and French. Why the name, what problem it answers, and where the work stands today.
1.Where the name Amorcia comes from
The name comes from priming (amorçage in French): that first input that lets an idea get going. A project does not need all the money in the world. It needs the first push, and people who believe in it early enough.
The promise says the same thing in one line: spark the ideas that move Africa forward. Spark, not fund entirely, not replace a bank: turn the handle once.
2.The problem we address
Thousands of African founders have a solid idea and no access to traditional funding. Facing them, a diaspora that wants to invest in the continent but lacks reliable, traceable channels.
Between the two, a legitimate wariness: where does the money go, and how would you know? Until that question has a checkable answer, the rest is marketing.
3.Our answer
Five ways to contribute, donation, reward, loan, investment and mentoring, and one rule that never moves: funds are held in escrow and released milestone by milestone, against proof of delivery.
Mobile money first, because that is how Africa pays. A platform that demands an international bank card excludes most of the people it claims to serve.
The guarantees, and how to check them, live on the trust and safety page.
4.Mentoring, the lever people talk about least
A few hours of expertise from an agronomist in Toronto or a solar specialist in Paris are sometimes worth more than a cheque.
That is why mentoring is a full form of contribution on Amorcia rather than a side feature: it is requested, accepted or declined, and followed like a commitment.
5.What we will not do
A promise holds as much by what it rules out as by what it announces. Three exclusions are worth writing down.
- No demo figure presented as real. Sample data is labelled as such in the interface, everywhere, without exception.
- No data resale. No selling, no renting, no passing on for advertising, and audience measurement only starts once you agree.
- No fee discovered after the fact. The amount, the fees and the total appear before a payment is confirmed, not on the statement.
6.Where we are
Amorcia is being built, and says so. The opportunities directory is live and maintained; so are the country guides and the journal.
Funding campaigns will open once identity verification and escrow are beyond reproach. We would rather open late than badly.A platform that loses its first backers' money does not recover from it.
